These accommodations are here to provide our students with spaces that allow for untether engagement in fitness activities & recreation, music, reflection, relaxation, meditation, and quiet study.
There are two fitness facilities available for medical student use. The Scott Hall Fitness Room is located on the medical school campus and the Mort Harris Fitness and Recreation Center is located on the main campus of WSU.
Scott Hall Fitness Room
Release and Waiver of Liability - Form
Location:
The fitness room is located in the basement of Scott Hall in room 108. Locker rooms and showers are also available (Men's, Room 114. Women's Room 118).
Hours and Access:
Accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using your OneCard.

Scott Hall Fitness Room Use and Safety Guidelines
These policies have been designed to facilitate student use of the fitness center to its fullest. We hope to create a comfortable atmosphere for you to relax and enjoy your workout.
1. In case of EMERGENCY, please call Public Safety at (313) 577-2222 from the telephone located in Room 108 or the next nearest telephone that is located on the first floor, just east of the guard desk. Please note, there are three different phone lines set up including a campus and public phone.
2. Observe all posted signs and equipment warnings.
3. Safe and proper use of equipment is required at all times. Including but not limited to:
- No lifting heavy weights alone
- No deadlifts
- No dropping weights
- You must rack weights after use
- You must clean equipment with wipes and space after use
4. Actions that threaten the safety and well-being of yourself or others will not be tolerated.
5. Shirts and athletic shoes must be worn at all times. For health and safety reasons, the following is not permitted:
- Sandals
- Spiked shoes
- Work boots
- Flip-flop shoes
- Belts
- Jeans
- Clothing with rivets
- Wallet chains
6. Neither Wayne State University nor the School of Medicine is responsible for personal belongings lost in or stolen from the fitness room.
7. Use of the Fitness Room is restricted to WSU SOM students who have completed the WSU SOM waiver form on file in the Office of Medical Education.
8. Absolutely no food is allowed in the Fitness Room. Drinks must be in closed containers.
9. During peak hours, please:
- Limit time on cardio machines to 30 minutes if others are waiting.
- No super-setting: allow others to work on weights between sets if they are waiting.

Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center
The Mort Harris RFC is in the center of main campus, directly across from the Student Center Building and across the mall from the Undergraduate Library (view map).
Parking for the Mort Harris RFC is conveniently located in structures 2 and 5 on Anthony Wayne Drive. Metered parking is also available along Cass between Warren and Palmer and on Warren between Cass and the Lodge service drive.

Student Recreational Lounge
The student recreational lounge is a large comfortable space designated as a place for recreation and relaxation for SOM students. It has a pool table, cable TVs, lounging furniture, and a private room for student activities and studying.
Location:
The student lounge is located on the first floor of Scott Hall, near the west exit of the cafeteria.

Accessible 24/7 with a key code that is available through the Learning Spaces & Support Office.

Student Relaxation Lounge
The student relaxation lounge was designed to increase the sense of peace, promote physical relaxation, and enhance overall well-being. The newly furnished space offers modular and reconfigurable seating and tables to meet student and group needs.
Location:
The student relaxation lounge is located on the first floor of Scott Hall, Room 1328.

Accessible 24/7 with a key code that is available through the Learning Spaces & Support Office.

UHC-6E Student Study and Relaxation Space
This expansive 5,400-square-foot student space is located in UHC-6E. UHC-6E Student Study and Relaxation Space offer a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere exclusively for SOM students. Whether students are seeking a space to study, a place to mix & mingle, collaborate, dine, and or a place to just relax it can all be found in UHC 6E.
The space contains 18 small-group study rooms all with large dry-erase boards, one large-group study room, numerous individual study desks, a conference room, three on-call rooms for rotating medical students, lockers, a break room with refrigerators and food preparation space (coffee and tea provided by the Student Senate), a lactation room equipped with a microwave and mini-refrigerator, a relaxation/meditation/prayer room, and restrooms.
In addition, the space has three on-call rooms, comfortable sofas, and chairs for relaxing, prayer, and meditation mats, a water filtration fountain with a water bottle refill station, computers, internet access, an abundance of electrical outlets, and a small collection library with medical textbooks for students to use in house.

The University Health Center, Room 6E.

Accessible 24/7. A hospital badge is required for building entrance and space access.

Student Music Room
The student music room was created for musically inclined students who want to escape and relax. The music room has a beautiful piano and space for students that desire to play and practice their instruments.
Location:
The student music room is located on the 2nd floor of the north side of Scott Hall, Room 2313 (adjacent to the student mailboxes).

Accessible 24/7 with a key code that is available through the Learning Spaces & Support Office.

Student Meditation Room
The student meditation room is a peaceful, tranquil room designated for students seeking solace and privacy.
Location:
The student meditation room is located on the 2nd floor of the Mazurek Building, directly in front of the elevator.
